Zoom is a video conference calling app, that's commonly used for online presentations and discussions. If you’ve never used Zoom before, never fear, it doesn't take long to get the hang of it. Below you will find step-by-step tutorials to help you get started. All you need is a smartphone, a tablet, or a computer with an internet connection. (Note: you will need a reliable internet connection to be able to participate in the program. Most household internet connections should work just fine).
When you register for an online event or program, you should receive a link to the Zoom meeting sometime before the event (so be sure to check your email!). Then, when it's time for the event to begin, all you need to do is click the link and you'll be directed to the online event. If you've used a video chat program like Facetime, Skype, or Google Hangouts, Zoom is pretty similar.
What if I don't have a camera or microphone on my computer?
If you don't have a camera or microphone on your computer but have a smartphone, we recommend using your smartphone instead, since most smartphones have a microphone and camera built into them. You may also purchase an external microphone and webcam for your computer, which are usually not too expensive or difficult to set up. We recommend that participants have their video cameras turned on during the discussion since it makes the experience a lot more fun and more personal. However, if you do not have a webcam or strongly prefer not to use a webcam, you can still participate in the discussion via the audio on your phone or computer.
