Instructions for Returning to Mass
We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Mass publicly again even though we know Mass will feel different during this time of transition. Our goal is to keep our parishioners safe, which means that we have to be responsible for each other.
As a reminder, due to a reduced seating capacity in the church, Mass will be offered at the following times at least until the end of June:
Saturday Mass, starting on May 30th 4pm (English)
6pm (Spanish)
Sunday Mass Times, starting on May 31st 10am (English)
2pm (Spanish)
6pm (Spanish)
Please read the following questions and instructions carefully. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact us at (614) 237-0401. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation!
Should I stay home or come to Mass?
Everyone must carefully discern the best decision for themselves and their families. For those who cannot participate at Mass in person, we will continue to have Mass streamed on Facebook and YouTube. As a reminder, Bishop Brennan has dispensed all Catholics from the obligation to attend Mass until September.
Please Stay Home If:
You are feeling sick or have a fever
You have a sick family member at home or have been recently exposed to someone who may be sick
You are at risk because of a preexisting condition or age
You are the primary caretaker of a vulnerable person
What do I need to bring to Mass?
All parishioners (ages 3 and older) are required to bring a mask to church and wear it at all times, except when receiving Communion. Only those wearing masks will be allowed into the church. We understand the difficulty this poses for smaller children and ask parents to try their best to help keep masks on their children.
We will have hand sanitizer available but ask that you please bring your own hand sanitizer if possible. Everyone will need to sanitize their hands upon entering the church.
Collection envelopes and donations can be dropped off in the designated baskets as you enter or exit the church. Collection baskets will not be passed around during Mass. You are also welcome to give electronically by visiting our Giving Page at: https://giving.parishsoft.com/App/Giving/christthekingcolumbus
What will happen when I come to Mass?
When you arrive, please enter through the main entrance on the east side of the vestibule. All other doors will be closed.
Doors will open 30 minutes before Mass begins. Those who are waiting will need to form a line outside of the church within the designated space while maintaining a distance of six feet between families.
Because we have fewer seats available, once the church is full, we will not be able to accommodate anyone else. When all seats are filled, everyone who is waiting in line will kindly be asked to attend another Mass or come back at 7:00 pm on Sunday for the distribution of Holy Communion.
In order to maintain social distancing, only certain pews will be open for seating. Members of our hospitality team will assist with seating as people arrive. Families will be seated six feet apart in the designated sections marked with blue tape.
Holy water fonts will be empty and hymnals will be removed during this time.
The cry room will not be available for seating but will serve as a designated area for those waiting to use the restrooms.
Which restrooms will be accessible?
The restroom in the cry room will be available to use before or during Mass. The restrooms located near the parish office will be closed for the time being. If you or your child are waiting to use the restroom, please form a line inside the cry room while maintaining a distance of six feet between each family.
What will happen when it is time to receive Holy Communion?
The distribution of Communion will occur after Mass has concluded. Before the Eucharist is distributed, the priest will say the final blessing and dismissal.
When it is time to receive Communion, you are welcome to receive the Sacred Host. Distribution of the Precious Blood is temporarily suspended.
A volunteer will come to your pew and let you know when it is your turn to come forward to receive Communion. Parishioners will form a single-file line toward the front of the church. Please bring all of your belongings with you.
For the health and safety of everyone, we ask all parishioners to please receive Communion in the hand during this time of transition.
Before receiving Communion, pull down your mask and step forward to receive Communion. Please put your mask back on after consuming the Eucharist.
After receiving the Eucharist, parishioners will immediately exit the church. We will need to have everyone leave the church promptly so we can begin cleaning and sanitizing the church. Please do not congregate inside the church after Mass is finished.
What will happen during the distribution of Holy Communion at 7:00 pm on Sunday?
For those who are not able to attend Mass, you may come to receive Holy Communion at 7:00 pm in the church. The distribution of Communion will last until everyone is served (please note this is not a Mass)
Please enter through the main entrance of church vestibule while keeping a distance of six feet apart between each family. Proceed into the church to receive Communion. Then, after receiving the Eucharist, immediately exit the church while maintaining a spirit of prayer and reverence. Please do not stay in the church to pray during this time.
